Two cars from the planet’s biggest auto companies illustrate that going green can be fun, practical

ALTERNATIVE-POWERED vehicles may still be regarded these days as novelties, less a means of transportation but more as a canvas on which to proclaim one’s fashionable viewpoint on environmental issues—sort of like a T-shirt, only one that’s really large and really pricey.

But make no mistake, it’s going to be sooner rather than later when the now-traditional fossil fuel-powered cars will become the oddities, as can be gleaned from the trend where carmakers increasingly developing eco-friendly models that boast real-world applications instead of being mere fashion statements. The two cars on this page, however disparate their uses and target markets are, prove that going green need not mean having to give up on the goodies. Now that could work on a T-shirt.
