Fan-made ‘Dance Dance Revolution’ movie hitting theaters

Unsanctioned movies based upon video games have been a staple of YouTube ever since it opened for business. Though the scope and scale of such fan creations has made considerable strides, the works have

remained within the confines of the Internet ... until now. "The FP," based on "Dance Dance Revolution,” is a rare example of such a film getting a big-screen release.

"The FP" is best described as a fusion of the popular dancing game from Konami and the cult classic film "The Warriors." When local hero BTRO dies on the dance mat, brought down by the fly moves of thug leader L Dubba E, BTRO's younger brother JTRO goes into hiding and vows to never dance-duel again. 

But one year later, when the town of Frazier Park needs someone to step up and overthrow L Dubba's tyranny, JTRO rises to the challenge, and to avenge his fallen brother.

Cheesy though it may be, it isn't a totally amateur production. "The FP" is the creation of The Trost Bros, and Brandon Trost is an accomplished cinematographer who shot "Crank: High Voltage," "Halloween 2," and "MacGruber." Brother Jason is an aspiring screenwriter who happens to also star in their debut joint effort.

The first trailer made its debut at last year's SXSW to great response. A year later, it's a feature length motion picture. That's quite a feat, given that most staples of the genre are short films at best, and usually the trailers you see are fake ones for movies that never get made.
