ABL Season 3 Game 2: Westports Malaysia Dragons Edges Out San Miguel Beermen in Overtime

The Westports Malaysia Dragons held on to a thrilling overtime victory over newcomers the San Miguel Beermen by winning 83-77 at home behind huge contributions from their two new imports Brian Williams and Tiras Wade. Westports Malaysia Dragons and San Miguel Beermen started off a fast paced first quarter as both teams quietly exchanged baskets at both ends. The ABL newcomers, San Miguel Beermen amazed the Dragons home crowd with several dunks from Richard Jeter, Darlon Lamar Johnson and local player Jun Mar Fajardo. The beermen, who filled their squad with several veterans like Cabatu Santiago Jr. , Leonidez Avenido, Froilan Baguion and Benedict Fernandez ended of the 1^st Quarter ahead with a score of 25-23

San Miguel started the 2nd quarter off with a good lead and the Beermen pushed ahead to 37-29 with 3:40 to go. The Dragons tried to catch up but the Beermen managed to maintain their lead thanks to the sharp shooting of Avenido and Cabatu as well as a very solid defense. Williams of the Dragons

managed a giant slam with 30 seconds to go ending the quarter strong for the Dragons at 35-42. Brian Williams led all scorers at the end of the half with 17 points while Johnson was the leading scorer for the Beermen with 11 points.

The Dragons started the 2nd half on fire as imports Tiras Wade and Brian Williams scored 11 straight points for the Dragons. Wade managed to put in a short range jumper to bring his team to 50-50 with 4 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter. Williams then got close to the basket again to bring his team to a 2 point lead at 3:50 to go. Strong defense from guards Ernani Pacana and Guganeswaran Batumalai provided additional pressure to the Beermen as the 3rd quarter ended with the dragons ahead of the Beermen by 2 points, 59-57. 

Both teams were under pressure at the start of 4th quarter as the score was at 59-57 with 8 minutes to go. San miguel beermen’s Richard Jeter managed to put his team back into the lead with a shart 3 pointer bring them to 60-59. Both teams went head to head in the 4th quarter exchanging turnovers and points. The Beerman managed to pull their lead to 71-67. With 13 seconds to go, Tiras Wade put in 2 free throws which evened the score at 73 each bringing the game to overtime.

Pacana Started overtime strong for the Dragons with a quick jumper while Fajardo missed 2 free throws at the other end. Belasco pulled the Dragons further ahead with another 2 but Johnson brought the beerman within 2. Both teams began exchanging baskets but the dragons pulled ahead by 4 off a huge basket by Belasco. Avenido missed an open 3 and wade iced the game off with 2 made free throws. The game ended at 83-77.

Tiras Jamaal Wade contributed 28 points and 6 rebounds while his teammate Brian Michael Williams ended the game at 26 points and 23 rebounds. Darlon Jamar Johnson manage to contribute 17 points and 6 rebounds for the San Miguel Beerman.
