The Philippine Psychiatric Association (PPA) Inc. will hold its 38th Annual Convention on January 24-27 at the Taal Vista Hotel in Tagaytay City. This was announced by Bernadette Arcena, MD, DPBP. FPPA, chairman of the Publicity and Events Committee.
With the theme, “Psychiatric Therapeutics: The State of the Art,” the convention will tackle current researches and several important topics on mental health care, schizophrenia, dementia, suicide and other psychiatric disorders.
PPA president Constantine Delia, MD, FPPA, said the convention will also explore treatments for schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder and dementia.
The program is in line with the association’s mission of advancing mental health care, education, advocacy and research in the Philippines.
“Knowledge on the treatment of mental illness continues to grow by leaps and bounds since the Decade of the Brain was proclaimed in 1990. Indeed, powerful technology has ushered an era of discovery in brain research and this affords us a better understanding of how mental illness may be conquered,” according to Delia.
“To this end, we have gathered experts who will shed light on novel and innovative ways of treating schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder and dementia. Current therapeutic modalities for each of these common psychiatric conditions have emerged from painstaking research. This year’s scientific program will provide a glimpse of such explorations,” he added.
