Davis Cup veteran Jeson Patrombon and Filipino-Italian Marc Reyes reached the semifinal round of the $10,000 Israel Futures 1 doubles competition after shocking the second-seeded pair at the Sport Hotel Club in Northern Beach Eilat, Israel.
Patrombon and Reyes stopped the late comeback of Gleb Sakharov of France and Mike Vermeer of Luxembourg for a 6-2, 4-6, 12-10 quarterfinal victory.
“Our boys are standing firm against the competition and with all the hard work that where putting in it is bound to pay off. Marc and Jeson’s partnership is getting better in each tournament they have competed in,” said coach Manny Tecson.
Patrombon and Reyes are expected to have their hands full anew as they face the No. 3 tandem of Jean Andersen and Ruan Roelofse of South Africa, a 6-7 (1), 6-2, 10-3 winner over Norbert Gombos and Adrian Partl of Slovakia.
In singles, Patrombon bowed out of contention following a 4-6, 6-3, 1-6 defeat to qualifier Maxim Dubarenco of Moldova.
Meanwhile, Filipino-German Marc Sieber will be playing Sandro Ehrat of Switzerland in the second round of the 2012 Germany Futures - Südwestbank Tennis Grand Prix at the Tennishalle Schwieberdingen courts in Felsenberg.
Sieber and German partner Matthias Kolbe, on the other hand, lost to Florian Fallert and Jakob Sude of Germany in the doubles quarterfinals via 5-7, 6-2, 9-11 decision.
