Notorious criminal shot dead in Tondo

MANILA, Philippines – A notorious illegal drug and car theft leader was shot dead by the police in Tondo, Manila early Tuesday morning.

The Manila Police District identified the suspect as Abdul "Basit" Malacao, who allegedly was a
leader of a large illegal drug group in Manila.

Malacao allegedly fired shots at the police to elude arrest but was eventually shot dead by anti-illegal drugs operatives in his 2-storey house in the shanties of Isla Puting Bato. The police recovered a .45-caliber pistol from Malacao.

Police said Malacao is included in National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) order of battle, which refers to a list that ranks criminals based on their notoriety.

Police also believe Malacao was behind a series of car and motorcycle thefts in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

An operation is ongoing against the members of Malacao’s group in the area.
