League lines up bets for senatorial race


ANGELES CITY—The League of Cities of the Philippines is coming up with “possible political materials” to fill-in for various positions.


Angeles City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan broke the ice by starting the shortlist with Valenzuela City Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian.



He made the announcement on Wednesday during the signing of Sister City memorandum of agreement between Angeles City and Valenzuela City held at the session hall.


“The entire 122 members of the LCP is eyeing Gatchalian for Senate seat come 2013 elections,” said Pamintuan in his opening speech.


Pamintuan, LCP’s public relations officer, said he was impressed by Gatchalian’s achievement in local governance.


“The Valenzuela City Mayor [Gatchalian] is our country’s future Senator,” Pamintuan told audience mostly employees of the City Hall and other visitors accompanying Gatchalian.


More than a year ago, Valenzuela City ranked first in the local governance performance management system initiated by the Department of Interior and Local Government while Angeles City landed on the 5th spot.


Gatchalian motored here yesterday for the signing rites.


The pact covers exchange of ideas and resources in various fields that include education, science and technology, culture and arts, tourism, planning and urban development, trade and industry, youth welfare, sports, environmental protection, agriculture, health, social services, and disaster mitigation and preparedness.


Gatchalian commened Pamintuan for drawing business locators to Angeles.


“This goes to show how confident are the investors with the leader and big investment is an evidence of a good leader.”


He cited $50-million Philippine Academy for Aviation and Training Inc., a joint venture of Cebu Pacific Air and Canada’s CAE inside the Clark Freeport to gether shopping malls across the city.
