At least two of the five inmates who bolted their detention cell last Monday were recaptured during follow-up operations at their separate lairs in Navotas City, the local police said yesterday.
Back in detention were Alex Alejandro who is facing charges of robbery, and Darryl Salvador,
who is facing illegal possession of firearm, Senior Supt. Florendo Quibuyen, city police chief, said.
Meanwhile, Quibuyen told the Tribune the composite team from the local police and Northern Police District was still conducting follow-up operations to recapture the duo’s companions, namely, Mark Anthony Austria, Lito Labungray and Narciso Disipulo who remain scot-free.
Austria, Labungray and Disipulo, who are all facing criminal offenses, were reportedly still hiding in remote communities in the coastal city based on information from the city police.
The five inmates became the subject of extensive police manhunt operations after they escaped from their detention cell by destroying the ceiling of the facility.
The jailbreak was discovered around 4 a.m. by some jail guards, police said.
Local authorities are already investigating the incident as they determine the liability of the jail officers for the escape of the five inmates.
Meanwhile, two young men were returned to their “detention” facility being supervised by the city’s social welfare and development department after they escaped from their agency’s holding center a few days ago.
The two male teenagers, both aged 16, were apprehended by barangay watchmen around 2:30 a.m. last Thursday along R-10, North Bay Boulevard South. They are both facing charges of robbery, police said.
When checked, the two turned out to be “escapees” from the holding center that prompted local authorities to return them to the custody of the local social welfare officers.
