MANILA, Philippines – After rendering more than 200 hours of community service, Filipino-American singer Bruno Mars (Peter Hernandez in real life) has finally been cleared of the cocaine possession lawsuit lodged against him in 2010.
Hollywood entertainment website TMZ.com reported on Jan. 18 that on Wednesday morning (US time), Hernandez’s lawyer Blair Berk appeared before a Las Vegas court where “the matter is officially erased from Bruno's record.”
Hernandez reportedly completed 230 hours of community service, 30 hours more than the number prescribed, working for children’s and other health related charities. He was also able to finish the drug counseling sessions ordered by the court.
“Bruno earned the dismissal of his charge. He exceeded the expectations of the court in both his service to the community and his counseling,” Berk told TMZ.
In Sept. 2010, Hernandez was caught with 2.6 grams of cocaine inside a bathroom stall of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
In February last year, the Grammy award-winning singer dodged jail time after pleading guilty. Instead of jail time, Hernandez was sentenced to one-year probation, undergo drug counseling at a private institution in Los Angeles, render 200 hours of community service and pay a fine of $2,000.
Online reports said that if Hernandez would be able to fulfill these within a year, the charge will be dismissed and erased from his record; otherwise, he may serve up to four years behind bars.
