The parallel effort undertaken by Noynoy’s House allies relative to the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona through the forming of Movement 188 only signifies that the Senate court will not be the only venue in the conspiracy to oust Corona and the reclaiming of
the Supreme Court (SC) for the people, as Noynoy and his rabid mob would call it, to disguise Noynoy’s obsession to control the judiciary and make it toe his line, as well as wanting the Hacienda Luisita ruling giving the land back to the farmers overturned by a subservient high court.
Movement 188 has been masquerading as an effort to inform the public about the impeachment process, but in reality the real purpose would be to drum up popular sentiment against Corona and likely to soften the ground for another yellow mob uprising similar to the discredited Edsa II power grab, but this time directed against Corona and most members of the SC.
It was ominous in private prosecutor Arthur Lim, who seems to be in on the brewing plot, who said in a slip of the tongue in stating something about SC justices aside from Corona who “were not yet impeached” during the offer of evidence involving Internal Revenue Commissioner Kim Henares.
The getting together of the congressmen for a purpose outside the halls of Congress was also reminiscent of the campaign during the time of Gloria to push for a supposed People’s Initiative to allow the revision of the Constitution that many believed then was all geared toward political perpetuation of those in power.
The movement was noted for its being well-funded, obviously with money being churned out from the Palace and it would not likely be a surprise if the same formula is being employed in Movement 188.
The Charter change (Cha-cha) movement never died out with the defeat of the grossly despised People’s Initiative and took many other forms, including the constituent assembly campaign that nearly pulled through, if not for the public outrage that it had generated.
The preoccupation on Cha-cha, thus, was what greatly set apart the administration of former President Arroyo from the terms of other presidents.
Noynoy is reprising Gloria’s Cha-cha obsession with his compulsion to oust Corona and the rest of the high court justices who were appointed by Gloria to make them subservient to him and his demands.
What is evolving is a repeat of the sins of the past which is both a repeat of the mob rule and the president’s unalloyed preoccupation with a political whim.
The act of the House prosecutors calling for the Senate court to loosen its reins on the proceedings to allow “the truth to come out” is also a dead giveaway on the purpose of Noynoy’s allies to use the court proceedings as a propaganda tool against Corona and to discredit the current crop of justices in the tribunal.
Evidently what is being established is that a culture of irregularity and corruption has engulfed the high court by proving Corona, its head, has been engaged in corrupt practices that cannot be translated into actual decisions in the tribunal without accomplices to constitute majority of the justices.
Consequently, the purpose of Movement 188 would likely be beyond discrediting Corona but to also include the majority of the SC justices.
The purpose is evident: Removal of Corona and installing a new chief justice anointed by Noynoy will be a guarantee that the tribunal will be under Noynoy’s complete control.
Movement 188 is all about discrediting Corona and majority of the SC justices to lay the ground for its retaking.
