As an epic ends, a ‘Legacy’ begins

GMA Entertainment TV Group’s pride, Amaya, will dramatically conclude its eight-month long run tonight. The winner of the 2011 Golden Screen Awards for Television-Best Original Drama Series, the highly rated program is primetime’s first historic epic series, revolving around the life of a warrior princess before the Spanish occupation in the Philippines.


The grand finale will showcase the gripping battle between Amaya (Marian Rivera) against her most vicious and fiercest adversary, Dian Lamitan (Gina Alajar).

The show is endorsed by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines and the Department of Education for its historical and cultural context.

Directed by Mac Alejandre, Amaya is GMA Network’s most expensive production to date, amounting to a whopping P150 million for its grand scope and historically accurate details.

Amaya concludes tonight after 24 Oras on GMA Telebabad.

Meanwhile, all set to replace the successful epicserye is the first of GMA Network’s original drama series for 2012. Dubbed as the “glossy drama masterpiece” of Philippine Primetime Television, Legacy is a riveting story about three half sisters—Heart Evangelista, Lovi Poe and Alessandra de Rossi—out in a battle to inherit their incredibly wealthy father’s cosmetic company, Legacy.

Premiering January 16, GMA Network held a glittering launch for the show on Tuesday, where the rest of the cast was revealed: Geoff Eigenmann and Sid Lucero as the leading men; A-list actors Eddie Garcia, Liza Lorena, Jackielou Blanco, Maritoni Fernandez, Robert Seña and Cherie Gil.

Adding star power to this highly anticipated program is the young support cast of Mark Bautista, Sam Pinto, Solenn Heussaff, Ryza Cenon, Chariz Solomon, and Mike Tan.

Sitting down with The Manila Times for a brief interview, Lovi Poe expressed excitement over her return to TV.

“My last TV series was Captain Barbell [July 2011], which was quite a while ago, and I’ve been concentrating on movies ever since,” related one of the stars of the MMFF entry Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow. “And to come back and become part of such a huge production and stellar cast is just amazing.”

The daughter of the late King of Philippine Movies, Fernando Poe, Jr., Lovi revealed that her inspiration to do the best she can as an actress continues to be her father.

“Being in this business makes me feel closer to my father. Sana matuwa siya sa akin,” was the stunning beauty’s shy remark. “Just like the title of the show, I’m working hard to preserve my dad’s great legacy.”

Directed by Jay Altajeros, Legacy airs Monday to Friday starting on GMA’s primetime block.
