League of Municipalities stands united


MANILA, Philippines — The members of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines have decided to stand united in an effort of improving each other's economy, tourism, and security.
This sentiment was expressed by LMP National President and Bacoor Mayor Strike Revilla,
who believes that politics should not get in the way of productivity, and that diverse personalities from different political parties should instead just focus on strengthening the LMP as a whole.
Strike said that it is his top priority to solidify the LMP, despite its many political views and factions.
“I take on the challenge that you conferred me. With LMP, with our alliance, we can draw strength, potency that can better guide us to ultimately achieve what we are aspiring for our communities," he said. "With our united effort we will be able to conceive a different kind of synergy that capacitates each of us in harnessing our resources."
He urged members to focus on the "common good," and that is improving each other's economy and promoting tourism.
The LMP general assembly is slated next week, December 5 to 7 at the Cebu International Convention Center. The general assembly is expected to be attended by more than 1,500 municipal mayors from all over the country.
Mayor Strike is coming of his first year as LMP national president, given the mandate to serve from 2010-2013.
During last year's elections, other appointed members included Mayor Reynaldo Navarro of Laak, Compostela Valley, who was chosen as Vice President for Operations. Mayor Nelson Garcia of Dumanjug, Cebu was elected as Vice President for Internal Affairs. Mayor Datu Ibrahim Mangudadatu of Buluan, Maguindanao was chosen as Vice President for External Affairs.
Among the other officers elected were: Pasil, Kalinga Mayor James Edduba, Executive Vice-President for Special Concerns; Daraga, Albay Mayor Jerry Jaucian, Island Cluster President for Luzon; Aklan Mayor Ramon Legaspi, Jr., Island Cluster President for Visayas; Aleosan North Cotabato Mayor Loreto Cabaya, Island Cluster President for Mindanao.
Mayor Victoria Lim of Gasan, Marinduque was voted as national treasurer, while Mayor Franklin Lim of Santiago of Agusan del Norte was elected as national auditor.
Mayor Rosemarie Imboy of Loay, Bohol was chosen as business manager, while Mayor Rony Molina of San Jose de Buenavista, Antique was elected the public relations officer with Mayor Ramon Orfanel of Catanauan, Quezon as the general legal counsel.
Mayor Roel Paras of Malalag, Davao del Sur was named the Secretary-General, and Mayor Manuel Fortes of Barcelona, Sorsogon as the LMP National Spokesperson.
