MANILA, Philippines — Thirty official candidates of the 2011 Mutya ng Pilipinas beauty pageant were presented to the media, sponsors and guests during the designers competition held in Pasig City on Nov. 23.

Mutya ng Pilipinas President Jacqueline Tan and Executive Committee Chairman Roberto De Venecia announced the official candidates. They are: Mary May Yasol, Bernadette Lou Faundo, Benjielyn Rose Ongluico, Diana Sunshine Rademann, Celina Nardo, Vickie Marie Rushton, Natalie Roberts, Megan Cannova (Southern California), Nina Melizza Ronda, Jaymie Lou Pagulayan, Charisse Marie Sisperez, Kristina Marie Jose, Marie Isabelle Itchon, Pauline August Fernandez, Abbygale Monderin, Jhuneva Marie Go, Caren Braun, Cathrin Kloters (Filipino Community of Germany), Gabrielle Erika Tilokani, Annie Lea Fingcale, Eula Dorothy Mercado, Camille Javier, Roxanne Corluy (Filipino Community of Belgium), Felicia Baron (Southwest USA), Maria Bergersen (Filipino Community of Norway), Bea Rose Santiago (Canada), Jojilyn Sauquillo, Reynalyn De Mesa, Tifani Alexandra Cinco Grimes (Northern California), and America Atega.
They were selected following a series of regional pageant screenings nationwide and even abroad.
Major and minor titles at stake are Mutya ng Pilipinas-International, Mutya ng Pilipinas-Tourism, Mutya ng Pilipinas Overseas Communities, Mutya ng Pilipinas 1st runner-up and Mutya ng Pilipinas 2nd runner-up.
The top three titleholders will represent the Philippines in various international beauty pageants which will be announced soon. The winners will also receive cash prizes and gift certificates from this year’s sponsors.
Special awards with cash prizes will also be presented to the winners.
Mutya ng Pilipinas Chairman Joseph T. Tan said that this year’s theme is “Beauty Tourism Adventure” as the pageant’s contribution to the promotion of tourism, trade and cultural enrichment.
Organizers said that the candidates will get the chance to visit Puerto Princesa City, Palawan from Nov. 25 to 29, 2011 and take part in pre-pageant activities such as fun shoot triathlon, beauty adventure reality race, and preliminary swimsuit competition.
Reigning Mutya ng Pilipinas queens Barbie Salvador and Carla Lizardo will crown their successors during the grand coronation night on Dec. 2, 7 p.m. at The Arena, San Juan City. It will be telecast nationwide on ABS-CBN Channel 23 on Sunday, Dec. 11, from 9 to 11 p.m.
Mutya ng Pilipinas 2011 Beauty Adventure Tourism Search is presented in cooperation with Mayor Edward Hagedorn of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan and Sheridan Beach Resort and Spa, the official home resort of the Mutya ng Pilipinas.
