COTABATO CITY, Philippines – Performers from Sulu won the top prize in the cultural ensemble contest of the current celebration of the 22nd founding anniversary of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), replicating their dominance over four other cultural ensembles in past competition.
The contest, dubbed “2011 Cultural Festival for Peace and Unity,” was held last week at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Center (SKCC) inside the ARMM compound here under the auspices of the autonomous government’s Bureau of Cultural Heritage (BCH).
The Sulu ensemble won anew the contest for its best rendition that aptly portrayed the diverse and vibrant culture of the ARMM populace, in a replication of its victory last year, said lawyer Ashrafia Aimee Biruar-Mitmug, BCH executive director.
Biruar said this year’s competition received more plaudits for its meaningful emphasis on the campaign for peace and unity of present administration of ARMM acting Governor Ansaruddin Alonto Adiong.
