Pacquiao's cramps baffle Ariza

MANILA, Philippines – Conditioning coach Alex Ariza is looking for solutions to solve the cramps Manny Pacquiao suffered in his last two fights.

He said he is baffled by Pacquiao’s lower leg pains, which affected the Filipino champion's performance against
American boxer Shane Mosley and most recently, against Mexico's Juan Manuel Marquez.

“It’s odd, it only occurs on fight night,” Ariza told BoxingScene.com.

“It could be the shoes. I remember it being an issue earlier in his career as well, before I joined his camp. But for as long as I’ve been along for the ride, it hasn’t been an issue--until recently,” he added.

Ariza said Pacquiao never had this problem against David Diaz, Oscar de la Hoya and Antonio Margarito.

“Now, all of a sudden they’re there for Mosley and Marquez,” he said.

Pacquiao’s camp blamed foot cramps for the Filipino’s lackluster performance in the Marquez fight.

Boxing coach Freddie Roach said this hampered Pacquiao’s side-to-side and in-and-out movements.

Pacquiao also experienced cramps during his preparations for the fight.

While training for the Joshua Clottey fight in 2010, Pacquiao had shin splints.
