LEHNERT ROUTS KRYWACZ, ENTERS SEMIFINALS

FILIPINO-GERMAN Katharina Lehnert thumped American Sylvia Krywacz, 6-2, 6-1 to barge into the semifinals of the 2011 Smart–ITF Women’s Circuit Week
1 tilt yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila.

With the win, Lehnert, 18, forged a semifinal showdown against Lu Jia Xiang of China who earlier beat fellow Chinese Jia-Jing Lu, 6-2, 6-4.

“I feel so great. Tomorrow [Saturday] lies another challenging task, so I really need to keep playing consistently tough,” said Lehnert.

Thai Luksika Kumkhum also entered the semifinals after routing India’s Rishika Sunkara, 7-5, 6-2. She will face her compatriot Peangtarn Plipuech in the semifinals.

Plipuech, for her part, thrashed Korean Hae-Sung Kim, 7-6 (6), 6-2 in the quarterfinals.

In the doubles category semifinals, the Thai duo of Kumkhum and Plipuech earned a finals berth by upsetting the Korean pair of Hong Seung-Yeon and Kim Ju-Eun, 4-6, 6-3 [10-1]. They will face China’s Zhao Yi-Jing and Zheng Jun-Yi who defeated Sharmada Balu and Rishika Sunkara of India, 6-1, 0-6 [10-6].  -Manila Times
