Hit men sent to murder governor pose as bed sheet peddlers

NEGROS Oriental police arrested two men who were allegedly paid and sent to kill local governor Roel Degamo, a police report said yesterday.

In his report to Philippine National Police spokesman, Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz, Senior Supt. Edward Carranza,
provincial police director, identified the suspects as Anthony Eleuterio and German Escora.

Carranza said Eleuterio and Escora were arrested near the governor’s residence in Bonawon village, Siaton town at about 6 p.m.

He said that the arrest came after the local police and the governor’s security team received information from an informant about the presence of two hired killers in the area.

The report also noted that the hit men disguised themselves as bed sheet vendors when they were seen by the governor’s security detail, prompting them to suspect something fishy afoot since it was too odd for vendors to peddle bed sheets in the evening.

One of the bodyguards recognized Eleuterio, who had a police record and had been out on bail for illegal possession of guns charges.

The bodyguards coordinated with policemen in Bonawon and arrested the two.

Seized from the suspects were a .45- caliber pistol, one Ingram pistol and two explosives.

The two suspects are now detained at the Siaton Police Station, where they were interrogated. -Manila Times
