A crewmember of a fishing boat was killed after the vessel he was on collided with a SuperFerry passenger vessel off Sarangani Friday.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the incident involved the fishing vessel San Jose
Bayanihan and the SuperFerry 20.
In a report posted Friday night on its website, the NDRRMC identified the fatality as Giovanni Buntong, 60.
Six other crewmembers of the fishing vessel were rescued. They were identified as
- Jonito Mendoza, 52
- Rex Bulawin, 28
- Marjus Iramis, 20
- Joseph Tiones, 20
- Regalado Sender, 19
- Bryan Inero, 17
Initial investigation showed the fishing vessel was en route to Balut Island when it collided with the SuperFerry 20 from Makar Wharf in General Santos City.
The SuperFerry vessel was on its way to Manila via Zamboanga City.
The Coast Guard in General Santos City is conducting an investigation into the incident.— GMA News
