A PERFECT campaign and a world championship loom for Kelly Fisher.
The pride of Great Britain continued her sizzling performance in the Women’s World 10-Ball Championship as she subdued China’s last hope, Yu Han, 9-4, and advanced to the championship round on Sunday at the Robinsons Galleria.
Fisher, a five-time world snooker champion and winner of the 2007 US Open Championship, set up a
final duel with Tsai Pei Chen of Chinese Taipei.
The young Taiwanese scored a repeat win over former world no.1 and last year’s runner-up Ga Young Kim of Korea in an exciting semifinal match, 9-7.
“I’m excited and quite nervous as I will be playing in my first finals match in the world championship,” Fisher said on national television.
But while the British made it to the final round in a relatively easy way, Chen had to go through the proverbial eye of the needle in winning over the same player she defeated in the early stages of this tournament.
Unlike in their previous meeting, Chen had to slug it out with Kim, who missed several easy shots, including the most crucial one in the 13th rack, where she bungled a corner shot at the no.6 with the score tied at 6-all.
Both players traded points in the next two racks and Kim had an opportunity to break the deadlock anew. Unfortunately, she had a dry break in the 15th rack, while the Taiwanese had a run out. Chen then capped her brilliant showing against the Korean when she made a spectacular kicked shot that sent the no.7 to the corner pocket, which proved to be the final nail in the coffin of Kim. -Manila Standard
