Cops serve arrest warrants vs Bedol, Ampatuan Sr.


MANILA, Philippines – The police served the arrest warrants against former election supervisor Lintang Bedol and former Maguindanao Gov. Andal Ampatuan Sr. on Friday.

The arrest warrant for Bedol was served by personnel of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation
and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) at the Camp Crame detention center in Quezon City at around 6:15 p.m.

Ampatuan was served his warrant at Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan where he is detained in connection with the Maguindanao massacre.

Bedol, along with former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Ampatuan Sr., were issued arrest warrants by Judge Jesus Mupas of Pasay RTC Branch 112 after he found probable cause against them for violation of Republic Act 9369 or electoral sabotage.

The Commission on Elections filed charges against them for electoral sabotage of the mid-term elections in parts of Mindanao in 2007.

Electoral sabotage is a non-bailable offense under Philippine law.

Bedol was properly booked and documented and remains in the custody of the PNP custodial center.

Compliance and return of the warrant of arrest to the issuing court will follow.

Meanwhile, the arrest warrant for former President Arroyo was served at around 6:30 p.m. inside her room at the St. Luke's Medical Center in Taguig City where she is confined.
