MANILA, Philippines – Multitudes of local artists have come together recently in two separate events that not only showcased their talents but also brought about entertainment and inspiration.
MYX Mo! 2011
Singers and musicians of various genres rocked the Marikina Sports Park stage last Nov. 24 for “MYX Mo! 2011,” a well-attended music fest that also marked the 11th anniversary of local channel MYX.
Included in the long line of performers were bands Spongecola, Rocksteddy, 6CycleMind, Sandwich, Wolfgang, Chicosci, Callalily, and Pupil; former band vocalists-turned solo artists Rico Blanco and Ebe
Dancel; as well as bossa nova singer Sitti, R&B artists JayR and Quest, and hit rapper Gloc-9.
A few artists also made their “MYX Mo!” debut on Thursday night. These are Solenn Heussaff, Somedaydream, and international YouTube sensation Marié Digby.
Solenn apparently enjoyed her stint in the event, tweeting on Nov. 24, “Ang saya sa Myxmo!! Maraming tao and fun people! :)”
Somedaydream (who is Rez Toledo in real life), the opening act for the big event, likewise tweeted about his “MYX Mo!” experience.
“Thank you @MYXphilippines! #MYXMO2011 was a blast!” he posted  on Nov. 25.
Iya Villania, one of the core VJs of MYX, thanked everyone who took part in “MYX Mo!”
“Nais ko lang pasamalatan ang lahat ng pumunta para maki-celebrate sa’min. Happy anniversary MYX!,” she said live on “Umagang Kay Ganda,” Nov. 25.
The event was a much-talked about topic even online. On Friday afternoon, “MYX Mo” ranked eighth at the top local trending topics on Twitter.
Christmas trees for a cause
Meanwhile, some of the highly-renowned lifestyle icons showcased their respective brands of uniqueness in designing Christmas trees for the “Tree of Life: An Exhibition of Yuletide Art.”
Works of furniture designers Milo Naval and Vito Selma, photographer-stylist Jujiin Samonte, designer-paper artist Tony Gonzales, interior and furniture designer Eric Paras, fashion designer Avel Bacudio, artists Leeroy New, Ling Quisumbing, and Nikki Luna, jewelry designer Nicole Whisenhunt, and sculptural jewelry designer Michelline Syjuco are currently displayed at Greenbelt 3 in Makati City, according to a release posted online.
These artists’ works were carved out of eco-friendly materials such as Manila paper, wire, wall paper, carton, reused mahogany wood, recycled packaging, metal, newspaper, and traditional cane.
The Christmas trees are up for bidding, the proceeds of which would benefit the ABS-CBN Foundation’s “Sagip Kalakasan” efforts, particularly the “Save Palawan Movement.”
