Bishop berates Aquino for focusing on Arroyo

A ROMAN Catholic bishop on Friday said that the Aquino administration has been focusing too much on going after former President Gloria Arroyo at the expense of doing other more important tasks.

Sorsogon Bishop Arturo Bastes, during an interview over Catholic-run Radyo Veritas, reminded the government that
there are more pressing problems that need immediate action.

“Mas maraming problema ang bansa na mas dapat i-hype at pagtuunan ng pansin kaysa kay Arroyo [The country has other problems that should be hyped and given attention than the former leader],” said Bastes, who ironically was a critic of Mrs. Arroyo during her term.

He added that among the problems that need the government’s attention are poor health and education services, extra-judicial killings, land reform, labor contractualization schemes and mining and other environmental abuses.

The Sorsogon bishop said that MalacaƱang should just leave the Arroyo issue to the right government agencies such as the Department of Justice and the Supreme Court.

“May tamang proseso at may tamang korte na magpapanagot kay GMA. Hayaan natin ang mga awtoridad ang gumawa nito [There is a correct pro–cess and a right court that can make Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo accountable for alleged wrongdoing during her administration],” Bastes added. -Manila Times
