MANILA, Philippines — The NFGB National Bakbakan 11-Stag Derby will have an extra round Saturday at the Pasig Square Garden (PSG) due to the unexpected surge of entries from the provinces.
Today’s elimination round will feature more than 100 fights. Semifinals matches will be on Monday at PSG.
Registration for Bakbakan was supposed to end yesterday at Pasay Cockpit but the barrage of last-minute participants from the Visayas and Mindanao forced the National Federation of Gamefowl Breeders (NFGB) executive committee to extend the event.
The latest Bakbakan tally yesterday ballooned to 4,392 entries, excluding those from PSG.
Among the leading entries with seven points are Ford Jaurigue of Batangas; Albert Uy of Bulacan; Jun Jalosjos of Zamboanga; Mauro Gomez, Elwin Javelosa, Alcantara Brothers and Joneline Abantao of Negros; and Gov. Eddie Bong Plaza of Agusan.
Cockfight idol Patrick Antonio, who earlier posted seven points, has another entry (Sagupaan B-50) with 6.5 points. Also with 6.5 points are Al Garcia, Raffy Abello and former Gov. Manny Pinol.
