FORMER world champion Rubilen Amit outclassed defending champion Jasmin Ouschan of Austria, 6-2, to advance into the knockout stage of the prestigious 2011 Women’s World 10-Ball Championship being held at the Robinson’s Galleria in Ortigas.
Amit wrapped up the group stage with 4-1 record. She lost to American Monica Webb, 3-6, on Thursday night.
“Jasmin is a good player. I just had a better game today and I’m looking forward to bring this momentum in the next round,” said Amit, the 2009 World 10-Ball champion and gold medalist in the 2009 Laos Southeast Asian Games.
The 29-year-old Amit earlier defeated Wu Jing of China, 6-4, Nataliya Seroshtan of Russia, 6-2, and 2009 runner-up Liu Shin-Mei of Taiwan. 6-5.
Ouschan, on the other hand, absorbed her first setback in five games but still advanced in the next round of the tournament which offers a whopping $75,000 total cash prize with the champion getting $20,000 and the runner-up taking $9,000.
“After four really good matches I just had the first downfall against Rubilen Amit. She played really well and after a bad mistake in game 3,” said Ouschan.
“Everything went downhill for me. Congrats to Rubilen. I still won four matches in my group so I will advance to the final round tomorrow,” she added.
Iris Ranola, meanwhile, was still playing in Group 2 as of press time.
